Ask for a guest register and a rental agreement
Ask for a guest register: name, phone, email, emergency contact, number of guests, and dates of stay.
Ask for a signed rental agreement covering stay dates and times, occupancy, daytime visitors, parking, noise, outdoor fires, the local emergency contact, and lawful rules for waste, fire pits, grills, pools, and spas.
Hosts may set lawful, non-discriminatory rules for their property. Booking-platform terms should not override a guest register or a rental agreement where local law requires them.
Guest data should be used only for the stay and safety, stored securely, and never sold.
West Virginia has no law like this today. North Carolina requires a written agreement for every vacation rental under 90 days (N.C. Gen. Stat. 42A-10). Brainerd, Minnesota requires a record of each guest’s name, address, phone, and vehicle plate. Pico Rivera, California requires a written rental agreement covering occupancy, noise, and parking.
The preferred path is local. Add those requirements to your city or county short-term rental rules first. Because Airbnb Help Center article 4169 honors a local law, an ordinance can apply to Airbnb bookings without waiting on a statewide rewrite. Also ask for a resolution urging the Legislature to act in the 2027 session if local action is not enough.
Then use Send to open the letter to your officials and a separate note to the Attorney General. You still press Send yourself.
