We build software you own, instead of software you rent
TailorMadeApps is a small American software studio that builds custom business applications for service companies — and then hands them over. You buy the app once. You own it, along with every piece of data inside it. There is no subscription standing between you and the tool you paid for.
Why the company exists
A typical small service business now runs on eight to fifteen separate monthly subscriptions: scheduling, invoicing, a CRM, review requests, dispatch, forms, storage, e-signatures, payroll add-ons. Each one looked cheap the month it was signed. Together they are frequently the third-largest line on the books, behind payroll and vehicles.
Three things about that arrangement bother us. The price only ever goes up, and it goes up on someone else's schedule. The software is built for the average of ten thousand companies, so every business ends up bending its process to fit the tool. And after five years of paying, you own nothing — stop paying and the work stops with it.
Renting made sense when custom software cost six figures and took a year. That is no longer true. We build with heavy AI assistance, which is what makes a tailored application affordable for a nine-person plumbing company rather than only for enterprises.
What we actually do
We start by counting. Our free subscription audit looks at what you are paying every month and what each tool is genuinely used for. Most owners are surprised by the total, and more surprised by how much of it is duplicate or idle.
From there we scope a single application that does the jobs those tools were doing — in the order your business actually works, with your terminology, without the features you never touch. We quote a fixed price before any real money changes hands, and the price does not move afterwards.
Payment happens in three steps, in this order:
- A deposit, so we can start. A small amount up front that books your build and goes toward the total — it is never an extra fee on top.
- A payment on delivery. Due when the finished application is handed over and working, not before.
- The balance, after you have used it for 30 days. You run the app against real work, real staff and real data for a full month first. Only then do you decide: pay the remainder in full, or finance it over one, three, or five years.
That order is deliberate. You are never asked to commit the largest payment to something you have not yet used in your own business. If the app does not earn its place during the 30 days, you walk and access simply ends. Switching systems is genuinely risky, and the risk should sit with us rather than with you.
Who we build for
Owner-operated service businesses, usually somewhere between three and fifty people. Towing and recovery companies. Small doctors' offices and clinics. Barbershops and salons. Plumbing, HVAC, electrical, cleaning, landscaping and pest control. Inspection firms, property managers, repair shops, small agencies.
The common thread is not the trade. It is an owner who knows their process cold, has never found software that matches it, and is tired of paying monthly for the gap.
Stop paying by the seat
Per-seat pricing is the part that quietly does the most damage. Nearly every tool you rent charges by the head, so the moment you hire — a second driver, a front-desk person, another barber in the third chair — your software bill goes up before that person has brought in a dollar. Growing costs you money in a line item that has nothing to do with growing.
It gets worse in the other direction. Someone leaves and the seat usually keeps billing until you remember to remove it. A dispatcher who needs to look at one screen twice a day costs the same as your heaviest user. And a tool you use for one narrow job still charges you for every employee who touches it.
An application you own has no seats. Put ten people on it or thirty; the price does not change, because there is no meter. Hire without checking what it adds to the bill — that is most of the point.
Built in America, by Americans
We are United States citizens and every hour of work happens here. No offshore contractors, no overnight handoff to a team you have never spoken to, no code written by people who will never understand what a tow release or a walk-in chair actually is.
We work East Coast hours and build for companies across the country, so if you are in California or Hawaii we will meet you early in your day rather than making you wait a night for an answer from the other side of the world.
When you call, an American answers, in English, and they know your build. That matters more than it should have to: most software at this price point is assembled somewhere else by someone who cannot ask you a good question about your business. Ours is not.
What owning it actually means
We are precise about this, because “you own it” is easy to say and easy to fudge. When your build is paid off, the application and its source code are yours, and so is the data. You can host it where you like, hire anyone you like to change it, or ask us. There is no licence that expires and no seat count that creeps.
What ownership does not do is make the internet free. Most applications lean on outside services — hosting, a database, text messages, email delivery, card processing, maps, AI — and those providers bill for what you use. Those costs are usually a small fraction of the subscriptions being replaced, and we tell you what to expect before you build. But we never pretend they vanish, and we never pay them on your behalf. The full detail is in our Terms of Service.
How we work
Small studio, deliberately. Every build is scoped and delivered by people who have spoken to you directly, with AI doing the heavy lifting on the code so the timeline is weeks rather than quarters. Once your app is live you get a customer portal for requesting changes, reporting problems and tracking what we are working on — the same portal we run our own business from.
We are also our own customer. The system that runs TailorMadeApps — intake, quoting, project tracking, support — is software we built for ourselves on exactly the terms above.
Who is behind it
TailorMadeApps is operated by Ellingwood Pro, LLC, d/b/a TailorMadeApps, based in Charles Town, West Virginia, and works with clients across the United States. Questions are answered by a person: reach us at hello@tailormadeapps.com.
Start by finding out what you're paying
The audit is free and there is nothing to cancel afterwards. Most owners find the number itself is the useful part.
